We get Letters:

In appreciation ...

This letter was given to Janet Haines by the mother of one of the children enrolled in TFT’s summer English classes in Simeria, Romania. We reproduce it in its original form, using the spelling and grammar of it’s author, a woman who has had little formal English instruction, but who nonetheless clearly conveys her message.

My name is _________. I’m living in Simeria, a little town from Romania, and I have a 7 years old son, Davy. Usualy I am a very shy and timid person, and it’s a little bit hard to me to talk with strange people, but, I had to go to this school, where the English summer classes are kept, and to tell to this nice American lady that I’m very glad that they come this year, again, in our town, and they are making a wonderful thing for our children.

My son, Davy, missed the last year summer classes. Anyway, he was to little for that. After finishing those lessons the holl [whole] town was speaking about that, what a great thing it is for children to learn a very good and well performed English, from this good American people. I want to give my respects and my appreciation to this people who’s doing such a great job with our children. They make kid’s happy, and they give them a quality time by studying and playing in summer vacation. I hope that they will find persons to help them to continue this good thing, by [my] giving my best wishing of well and health for them.

With respect,

Dear Janet,
I must confess from the very beginning that I was absolutely right in assuming that the cooperation between our school and "Teachers for Tomorrow" would be beneficial for both our students and their teacher. The weeks you and the others spent here this summer were at the same time interesting, challenging, and, above all, great fun..... As for the children, and even for the adults that came to the school together with their own children, it was a way of discovering that there are others ways of learning than the "old ways". ... Jennifer and Desirae .. managed to get the children to speak, express their thoughts and feelings, open up to the world. This is a difficult thing to achieve in our classrooms. .... this project must continue next year.... Sincerely yours, Marilena "
